ʻUluʻulu Moving Image Archive at the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu, through the generous support of the Henry Ku‘ualoha & Muriel Roselani Giugni Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation is pleased to welcome applications for the Roselani Media Preservation Internship. ʻUluʻulu is Hawaiʻi’s official state archive for moving images dedicated to the care, preservation, and digitization of film and videotape related to the history and culture of Hawaiʻi. The purpose of the Roselani Internship is to give a student of merit who is committed to the preservation of our media history – which covers the political, cultural and historical landscape of these islands – the opportunity to acquire practical experience in a moving image archive.

The 2024 Roselani Internship at ‘Ulu‘ulu is a host site for the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Pathways Fellowship Program which supports pathways in the audiovisual preservation field for people from groups historically underrepresented in the profession. AMIA Pathways Fellows may complete their internship at ‘Ulu‘ulu if accepted into both programs.

 

Intern activities at ʻUluʻulu may include opportunities in:

  • Cataloging and description of digital video files
  • Processing and creating inventories of archival audiovisual materials
  • Preservation activities and environmental monitoring
  • Digitization of videotapes and digital file quality control
  • Reference and outreach, including presentations and event support

 

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be enrolled (full time or part time) in a moving image preservation or archival academic program; or must be a recent graduate of such a program
  • The applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 in their academic program
  • The applicant must be authorized to work in the United States

 

Schedule and Compensation

  • The work schedule is 30 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks, expected to occur between June – September 2024
  • Interns may choose an in-person, remote or hybrid schedule
  • Interns will receive a $6,000 stipend, which will be supplemented to an hourly rate of $23 if also accepted to the AMIA Pathways Fellowship
