Documentary Internship – Hawai’i Women in Filmmaking

The goal of the HWF internship is to provide real world filmmaking experiences and mentoring for aspiring young women (cis/trans), femmes, non-binary, gender-fluid and gender-queer filmmakers. We strive to create an intergenerational conversation between experienced working filmmakers, our veteran filmmaker wāhine, and our rising stars from the HWF filmmaking programs and community at large.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities span from research, production assistance to director in day to day operations, post-production workflow (transcoding and organizing media from shoots), searching for archival footage, to general office-related needs. Interns will also have the opportunity to manage our outreach campaigns via social media networks. We expect interns to be on time, present, and committed to the productionʻs success.

The HWF Intern will learn how to produce a short documentary from pre-production to post. This includes, but is not limited to: researching the subject; how to prepare for a shoot and how location affects lighting and sound choices; editing and how to import footage and sync sound, transcription software and the sound library.

The HWF Intern will receive approximately 10 hours of orientation and instruction from HWF and be available to the director for 30 hours, including 4 hours of pre-production, 8 hours of production and 18 hours of post production. More hours may be available.

This internship begins on February 5, 2024, and ends on June 31, 2024 – with possibility to be extended..

• Technical knowledge in, camera, sound recording, and editing (Premiere Pro).

• Ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of contributors with varying skill sets

• Flexible, dependable, and able​ to work under pressure and able to accept new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organization results.

• Commitment to feminism and social justice

Timeline

• Application open January 5, 2024

• Application closes January 25, 2024 by 5:00 pm

• Interview will occur between January 25 – 31, 2024

• Anticipated Announcement of Interns: Thursday, February 1, 2024

• This internship begins on February 5, 2024, and ends on June 31, 2024

This is a one-time position for the duration of internship programs. This is a paid position $20 an hour.
