Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center was recently awarded a grant by the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for production of our own Samoan Youth Television Show. Our goals for this program are for our youth to document and share the Samoan cultural and language lessons of our elders with our community.
We are seeking an interested graduate student or undergraduate senior to lead the show’s development and production as Project Director. The Project Director (PD) will receive training and certification from ‘Ōlelo Community Media for this project. Once certified, PD will become an ‘Ōlelo Media Member, granting them access to the production facilities, resources, and equipment they are trained to use. Our grant for this project also provides a $3,000 stipend for this position. Stipend will be paid in three installments. Payments will be made to PD making good progress, as noted by the Project Coordinator and Le Fetuao Director.
Project Director responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Organize student and intern training, bi-weekly meetings, interviews, editing, and taping dates
-Oversee student and intern taping, editing, etc. in studio and field
-Attend bi-weekly meetings with interns and Le Fetuao students and staff for content and program development
-Coordinate with Evaluation Specialist for project evaluation and reporting
-Organize community events for project showcase
-Preference will be given to graduate students enrolled in media/communications programs with production experience; undergraduate seniors with extensive experience in media or television production may also apply.
-Available for at least a one year commitment (Project end date June 2020)
