About the role: Did you grow up watching Bill Nye the Science Guy? Did you devour books by Carl Sagan, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, or Malcolm Gladwell? We’re seeking a creative writer communicator — a science lover with a knack for the written word. This person will channel their science & technology curiosity into articles, digital content, and project proposals in support of Oceanit’s Marketing, Science & Technology, and Engineering teams. As a member of the Marketing team, this role is part science translator, part in-house journalist, and part content coordinator.

This role will encompass writing for digital content, PR, brand collateral, and project case study writing. In addition, this position oversees grant proposal coordination, ensuring proposals to Local, State, and Federal projects and R&D solicitations are reviewed and submitted on time, in great shape – quality control, proofing, and quality assurance. This includes document preparation, team coordination, deadline management, editing, final submission, and tracking & reporting of proposals. It will require the ability to review and revise scientific writing of others, as well as from-scratch drafting of proposal elements.

About the responsibilities:

Writing for digital content, PR, thought leadership articles, social media, and more
Writing of brand, product, or project collateral, such as flyers, brochures, technical documents, etc.
Market research, commercial case study, and proposal writing
Lead for published content management, i.e. whitepapers, books, etc.
Grant proposal tracking, coordination, document management, review/editing, submission of all grant proposals, and management of proposal pipeline and deadline calendar
Management of all Hawaii local and state SOQ (Statement of Qualification) documents for submission
About you:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Business, or similar area.
Experience in a writing-focused position preferable: journalism, research writing, blogging, copy writing, proofreading, editing, etc. Submit samples of your writing with your application under ‘additional documents’
Superior verbal and written skills are required, along with excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail
Eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation
Experience writing grant proposals to obtain funding and familiarity with DoD systems and federal grant systems a plus
